                    "〔本　殿〕神明造り　桁行３間、梁間２間<br />\n〔拝　殿〕入母屋造　桁行３間、梁間２間、背面中央に弊殿桁行２間を突出<br />\n〔女体宮〕一間社神明造<br />\n〔神楽殿〕入母屋造<br />\n〔神　門〕切妻造<br />\n〔東回廊〕入母屋造<br />\n二荒山神社は、宇都宮市街の中心部、臼が峰に所在する。第十代崇神天皇の皇子、豊城入彦命を主祭神とし、配神として大物主命及び事代主命を祀る。創立は仁徳天皇の時代で、下野国造となった豊城入彦命四世の奈良別王が荒尾﨑（下之宮地）に祖豊城入彦命を国社として祀ったと伝わる。<br />\n中世には源頼朝、近世には徳川家康の崇敬を受け、神領を寄進された。元和５年（1619）に宇都宮城主となった本多正純が町割りのため丘陵を切り通したため、境内は本社と下之宮に分かれた。慶応４年（1868）４月の戊辰戦争では市中に火災が広がり、二荒山神社も被災した。<br />\n現在の社殿は、明治時代初期から大正時代にかけて再建されたものである。<br />\n二荒山神社の社殿群は、明治時代初期における復古の志向から明治時代中期以降の装飾豊かな造形へと、近代の神社建築の展開を示しており価値が高い。戦災都市宇都宮の中心部に残ることも貴重といえる。"
